What are the main differences between iPod UI and iPod GW modes and how can I toggle between these modes if I have a non-Text capable Head Unit and I’m using a Gateway 300?

In case of having a Gateway 300 there are 2 different iPod modes available

  1. iPod GW mode (Controls via Head Unit)
  2. Ipod UI mode (Controls via iPod's touch wheel)

In iPod GW (Gateway) mode, all controls are available via the Head Unit (the iPod’s touch wheel is locked). Using a touch or iPhone, you can still browse in the main menu but if the iPod function is selected the navigation will not be available and ‘Accessory attached’ text will appear on the screen.

In iPod UI (User interface) mode, the communication between the iPod and the Gateway device is limited, therefore the Pod controlling is not affected and you can use it as normal. Limited controls are still possible via the Head Unit but only the next track, the previous track and the source selection (disc 6) buttons.

Different iPod modes can be selected as follows:

  1. Gateway UI:  Select disc 6, then select track 3, then press and Hold the FF button for about 2-3 seconds
  2. Ipod UI mode:  Select disc 6, then select track 2, then press and Hold the FF button for about 2-3 seconds
