All iPods have connectivity although the level to which they can integrate with your car radio depends on the iPod and Gateway model. To see what is possible with your iPod, check our iPod compatibility page.
The Dension product you need will depend on your car's make and model as well as the radio you have fitted. Check the Car compatibility section for more details.
For all the latest firmware, visit our downloads section, where you will find updates for all our products. Select your product and click on the file name to download a zip file. Within the zip file you will find details of which firmware file you need for your particular car and details of how to load the new firmware.
Please note: A firmware upgrade is not always necessary. Firmware upgrades are normally used to fix problems. If your product is working normally, there is no need to update.
Dension products are distributed worldwide. Go to our Where to buy section to find your nearest Dension distributor or retail outlet. In most cases our locator system will use your computer's IP address to select an appropriate distributor but if not, you can select your country from the dropdown menu on the left.
The most likely product to work in your car would be the Dension Ice Link ONE (the earlier FM model) but it would depend on your antenna connector type. For further details, please check the product page.
In iPod UI mode the communication between the iPod and the Gateway is limited, therefore id3 tags cannot be displayed on the Head Unit’s display. If the Head Unit is text capable “iPod UI” text will be visible on the screen. Id3 tags are visible only in iPod GW mode.

- Newer vehicles that have integrated displays that show radio information use a system
called CAN (CONTROL AREA NETWORK). This enables data to be sent from one
control module to another only using a 2 wire network. On the audio CAN system the
steering wheel controls, the head unit and the cluster display are all connected. On our
Can-Bus Dension GW100 and 300 devices we communicate information on the BUS to
be able to control the iPod or USB via the steering controls and put text on the displays.
The audio is usually connected through the AUX input on the head unit.
- On the Dension Non-CAN products we use a protocol called the CD BUS. Using this we
can emulate the original CD changer and we can fool the head unit into thinking that the
CD Changer is connected. Using various CD commands you can control the iPod or
USB. The audio is connected via the CD-BUS audio input and we can charge the iPod
using the original power for the CD Changer. Text is sometimes available on this
system if the original CD changer is capable of showing MP3 information. This will
show on the head unit.
