How it works

The Gateway Lite BT interface works like an interpreter between your device (may it be an iPhone, iPod, USB-source, or a Smart Phone) and the car, converting instructions from the car’s controls so that they work as commands for your music source. When connected into the car, Gateway Lite BT emulates a CD changer. Of course, every Gateway Lite BT comes with a comprehensive user manual, but in most cases, you select the CD changer function, then CD6, and using the FFW/REW key and/or steering wheel controls you will navigate around your music.

If your car is fitted with a CD changer, the Dension Gateway will take its place.

The Gateway Lite BT is capable of handling the sources simoultaneously. This is how it works - taking an example of connecting an iPod for music playback and an iPhone for handsfree use:

  • Connect the iPod through the 'iPod/iPhone dock cable' to the Gateway Lite BT directly,
  • Connect the iPhone to the BT handsfree connection (goes automatically if the 'pairing' is set when connecting for the first time),
  • Listen to music coming from the iPod,
  • You control the playback through the controls of your Stream head unit (skip track or previous track),
  • A call comes in,
  • Your music stops, you hear the phone ringtone through the speakers,
  • You accept or decline the call using the controls on the Stream head unit,
  • If you accepted the call, you hear the voice of your caller through the car speakers,
  • The other party hears you well - thanks to the microphone included in the package,
  • You sever the connection using the 'Previous track' button on your head unit
  • The music starts to play again from the iPod at the same position where you were listening to it before the call

If you were listening to another source (eg. radio or CD) when the call came in, you should switch to the Gateway Lite BT first to accept the call. When you change the function to the Gateway Lite BT (CD-Changer mode) you immediately accept the call, so there are no more functions to initiate or buttons to push and you will be connected to the caller. In this case the phone's ringtone comes through the phone speakers only, but if your head unit has a mute connection and it is correctly connected to the Gateway Lite BT, the source (radio or CD) will be muted to notify you of the incoming call.

Installation

Seamless car Integration

Car information and entertainment systems can be complex networks, so Dension always recommends that you have your installation carried out by a qualified installer. To find a selection of suppliers and installers in your country/area, please click here.

The installation will vary slightly according to the car in question, but in each case, you would want have either a cradle, or a dock cable to connect your iPod to. Your installer will ask and advise as to the best place to situate this in your vehicle. The Gateway itself is less than the size of a CD case and will be installed securely out of sight in the glove box since the car side harness is long enough to enable such installation. Dension products are all designed so that there is no need to cut cables.
